WPAFW2013 is just around the corner! Come join us at our new venue, the North Park Lodge! This rustic lodge accommodates more furs than ever for our full two day event! Set in the middle of North Park, we've got a ton of room to play, host events, and socialize!

When is it? October 11-13! We're kicking off earlier than ever on Friday and staying late through Saturday, and have informal activies on Sunday if you haven't gotten your fill! Check out our website for information regarding our hotel reservation block at the Wexford Econolodge (I-79 and Route 910), our programming guide, and the delicious food (four meals!) that's included in your membership. The hotel block closes on Sept. 26th.

This year's Charity Raffle proceeds will benefit Hide-E-Hole Ferret Rescue! This local rescue and no-kill shelter is located in the heart of Mt. Oliver and They take in unwanted ferrets, get them medical care as needed, work on behavior issues, and strive to find good, permanent homes. If the ferret is deemed unadoptable (usually due to serious health problems), they will keep that ferret for the rest of its natural life. As a true no-kill shelter, they only euthanize in the case of medical necessity. They rely on the support of volunteers and sponsors to support their cause. The shelter has been “official” since November 2002, but Barb Carlson has personally been doing rescue work with ferrets (on a much smaller basis) for at least 5 or 6 years before that.

Last year's Charity Auction featured almost 100 prizes, vouchers for services and commissions from many local and esteemed artists within the furry fandom. Other items included collectable knives, plush critters, candy, cards and games and much, much more!

Our featured artist for this year is our very own Akira Shima!

Pre-registration is open until October 1st! A regular, attending membership is only $25 if you pre-reg and food for both event days is included! To add a little extra kick to your membership, try out our Sponsor level. Bam! For only $50, you'll get all of the attending level perks plus a special gift and access to our beer bar! This is brand new for WPAFW 2013, and we hope you'll enjoy the ice-cold kegs! If you'd really like to help us out, take advantage of our new, Super Sponsor membership! It's $100 and Pre-Reg only, but we'll give you an extra special, unique gift and our undying gratitude. You get super-line-cutsies, too! Visit our Registration Page and sign up. Memberships at the door are also available!

We're excited to see you here and have some exciting events lined up - come check it out! The Charity Raffle, The Zoo, included and delicious food, Open Mic events, a LIVE performance by Look Left on the outdoor stage! There's a car show, fantastic dances and music from the paws of DJ Frisby, DJ Goggles and DJ Gir! Take a look at the online schedule for more information and teasers!

We're excited to see you at WPAFW 2013 - Come together, furry family reunion style!

Yes it is AGAIN that time of year. Time for the WPAFW. FEEL THE POWER! SEE THE MAJESTY! HEAR THE SCREAMING OF THE INNOCENT! EAT ALL THE FOOD. WIN ALL THE PRIZES!!!!!!!!!!!!

we are now located at the WILDLY BEAUTIFUL (according to the pictures) North Park Lodge Ummm i mean this one... sorry. which i am assured is NOT on an First Nations burial ground nor has it been the sight of grisly murders or strange cult activity involving strange otherworldly beings. and that is not blood on the walls. it is rust. which is why the lodge is Rustic.

ALSO Our hotel is finally decided on! Econolodge! cause we are cheap fuckers but not so cheap as to put you guys up at the Bates motel.

go to WPAFW.ORG and go look at shit and register! i mean holy shit we have a Sarcophagus filled with mystery slots of mystery for fucks sake for in the ever popular Charity Raffle. Imagine you could be the lucky person to win a knock off dead Egyptian official for a buck. Imagine what they will say in the afterlife when they found out and now have to sit in the corner of your room witnessing GOD knows what (probably porn and video games but you never know.) and he has slots for you to fill! i mean when do you ever get to see that!!!!!!!!

So register and come in accordance with the prophesy!

I know everyone is talking about RainFurrest or Furlaxicon, but I don't want anyone to forget that the Western PA Furry Weekend is also taking place this weekend in Pittsburgh, PA! So if you're looking for a fun and relaxing weekend and can't afford a full out con, let me suggest you join us at the WPAFW this year! www.wpafw.org

Activities start at 7pm Friday, September 28 at the Quality Inn Pittsburgh North with an Artist's Jam followed by Dances until 1am. There's also plenty of room to socialize, play games and bounce around in your fursuit.

If Friday night is out, then come by Fireman's Park in Aspinwall at Noon on Saturday, September 29, where the Event continues at it's outdoor venue. There we'll serve up lunch and dinner, offer games and activities and close up the night with our famed Charity Raffle.

Events spin up again at the Quality Inn Pittsburgh North Saturday night where the socialization continues and we rock the night with two more Dances!

We meet up again at the Quality Inn Pittsburgh North on Sunday at 11am to head to the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium or the Carnegie Museum of Natural History (your choice) to continue the weekend's fellowship. [Poll] Feb 10 Monthly Fur Meet...Ice Skating at Schenley Skating Rink?
Hey folks! I'm always looking for new ideas and places to meet and have fun here in Pittsburgh. I keep forgetting about the Schenley Skating Rink right up the road from where we normally meet on Thursday nights.

http://www.city.pittsburgh.pa.us/parks/schenley_skating_rink.htm#Mascot

Thursday nights from 7-9pm is their "Family Night." Admission is $4 to skate and they do have rental skates available for $2.50. (Hockey Skates are available for rent)

I have a poll up on the PA Furry Forums to see if there's enough interest to follow through with this. http://www.pa-furry.org/node/2028/pghfurs-would-you-be-interested-going-ice-skating-feb-10th-monthly-fur-meet-schenley-skati

I'll give them a call this afternoon to see if mascot costumers would be allowed on the ice during the skate and post an update here with the information they give me.

This could be a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to your input.

Thanks!

[PghFurmeet] Wild Mountain Snow Tubing Recap
Success!!

I wanted to post a thank you to the furs who came out for the meet last night to go snow tubing at Wild Mountain Snow Park at Wildwood Highlands Fun Center in Wildwood, PA. We had nine furs who were able to make it along with another two who met us at Eat n Park and got a table set up there for us.

There was a little confusion as to where to go once folks arrived at Wildwood Highlands, but everyone found their way toward the lighted slopes and was making their first runs down the groomed lanes by 7pm. It was a perfect night and the place wasn't very crowded at all. What started out as a five minute wait for the lift turned into no wait at all an hour later once the young kids and their families called it a night.

The runs were fast and all in attendance can attest to having a great time regardless of the cold. We laughed, raced, ran into small children, and basically let the feelings we had sledding as kids just bubble up to the surface. We're definitely going to schedule this again for next year...maybe in February though so it's not on the heels of the Holidays again.

Spent another two hours at Eat n Park after two and a half hours Tubing, eating and talking. Bob, our server, was a real character but he was spot on his job keeping drinks filled and patiently putting up with the group.

So thanks again to everyone who turned out last night and I'm sorry others couldn't make it.

*hugs*

Furs interested in Snow-tubing are asked to have proper foot gear and to dress for conditions. (See the link above) Furs attending to snow-tube are welcome to arrive as early or late as they wish. Polling Pittsburgh Furs! Snow Tubing outing in lieu of Panera Bread for January's Meet?
This is a post to go along with this Poll. http://www.pa-furry.org/node/1798/evening-snow-tubing-wildwood-highlands-lieu-panera-bread-januarys-pittsburgh-meet-cost-145

Wildwood Highlands offers Snow Tubing during the winter. Thursday night is "off-peak" and the runs are open, so long as the weather is cooperative, from 5-9pm. The evening session lift pass is $14.50 and of course you'd have to read and sign their waiver to participate. They do have a $.50 discount for groups of 15 or more.

Wildwood Highlands is out in Hampton Township off of PA Rt 8 on Wildwood Road. I can ask if costumes would be welcome if anyone is interested.

[Fursuiting Gig] Aspinwall "Witch in the Wall" Scavenger Hunt! 10/28
What: "Witch in the Wall" Scavenger Hunt
Where: Municipal Building, Aspinwall, PA (Outside of Pittsburgh) 217 Commercial Ave. 15215
When: Thursday, October 28 @ 6:30pm

Local fursuiters have been participating in this children's scavenger hunt organized by the Aspinwall Civic Association for the last three years. We've been such a hit that they keep asking us to come back and participate again.

The event runs from 7pm to 8:30pm Thursday evening, weather permitting. Costumers are placed along a three block circuit to interact with children and their parents during the hunt for pieces of the puzzle. Some costumers may be selected to have a piece of the puzzle, others may not.

Work schedules have really put a dent in the core group which have been participating these last few years so we really need some new blood to come and help support this.

I've posted about this about three times now since September. If you're interested, reply here or PM me with any questions and concerns.

Thank you for your help!

[WPAFW] Good or bad, Please give us some Feedback.
I've read many, many positive responses and reports on this year's Western PA Furry Weekend and the staff and I thank you immensely and are glad you had a great time.

However, we'd love to be able to consolidate that to a central point of reference and for that, with the help of Dobe, we've created an "On-line WPAFW Feedback Form."

If you attended the event, I ask you to kindly take a few moments out of your day to visit our site and answer the 10 questions posed. It helps us to know what worked, and what could use improvement. If it's within our means and power, we'll endeavor to continue or correct any portions of the event so identified.

Once again we're glad you had an enjoyable weekend and we thank you for your continued support.

[Fursuit Ops] Western PA for October, November and December!
Area fursuiters!! Here are a few opportunities to get out in costume and put your best paw forward for the fandom in October, November and December!

"Children's Halloween Scavenger Hunt"
Thursday, October 28, 2010
6:30-8:30pm
Aspinwall Municipal Building
217 Commercial Ave, 15215

We've been participating in this fun evening event for local children and their parents for the last three years now and we've been a huge hit. We'll need costumers and handlers to assist. If you have a non-mascot halloween costume of a "creature of the night" feel free to wear it and help us as a handler though it's not required.

We've made such a positive impression on the Borough's Activity Committee that this year they would like to invite us to participate in their Light-Up Night Parade.

"Aspinwall Borough Light-up Night Parade"
Saturday, November 20, 2010
Parade step-off time will either be 4 or 6pm (TBD)
Aspinwall Municipal Building
217 Commercial Ave, 15215

Light-up night continues after the parade is over and the Activity Committee is going to ask the local businesses if she can "station" a costumer or two in various locations as a way to help draw interest and to allow photo opportunities. I'll say up front that Sil and I will be in Chicago at MFF that weekend, however, just because I'm not there doesn't mean that a group can't participate.

"Wampum, PA Christmas Parade"
Saturday, December 4, 2010
Parade step-off time 1pm. Arrive by 11:30am.
Wampum, PA School Gymnasium, across from
355 Main Street, Wampum, PA 16157

Costumers and handlers are needed to participate. The parade is a walk around 4 city blocks out and back. After there will be a children's time with Santa that we've been invited to hang around for and pose for pictures with the kids. They will provide snacks and drinks. The address for the Municipal Building is, 355 Main St Wampum, PA 16157. We get changed in the old locker room in the gymnasium across the street. Please contact Noob if you are planning to attend so he can give them an idea of how many to expect, or if you have any questions. His e-mail is blueshepp(at)gmail.com

If you're interested in participating at either of these events, please reply here or send me an e-mail at events AT swiftsden.net

Thank you!

[EVENT] Pittsburgh Monthly Furmeet!-Thursday 6:30-9pm-Schenley Plaza
Pittsburgh's Monthly Fur Meet!
When:
Thursday, August 12, 2010
Time: 6:30-9pm
Where: Schenley Plaza, under the Tent Structure. http://www.pittsburghparks.org/schenleyplaza
In the event of rain: Panera Bread (Oakland), 3401 Boulevard of the Allies, Pgh, PA 15213

With summer upon us, we should take advantage of the warm weather and longer evenings and try an capture an out of doors venue where we can not only sit, relax and enjoy the free WiFi, but also play a little. Schenley Plaza allows for a covered sitting area, as well as grassy areas for throwing Frisbee and the Quad area which has been popular with those playing lazer tag. Food and drinks are available just up the road at the 7-11 on Forbes Avenue, or at the many eateries another block down the road.

Schenley Plaza is a part of the City Parks Conservatory and fursuits, ears and tails are welcome. Pets, and their responsible owners, are also welcome at Schenley Plaza.

In the event of rain, we will return to our old home at the Panera Bread on the Blvd of the Allies in Oakland.

The meet is what you make of it, so come on out and have some fun with fellow Pittsburgh Area furs! Don't forget to bring and show off your con badges if you have them! It at least helps us know who you are on the inside. :)

Hope to see you there!
